School seismology labs for the development digital competences

The Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens and the Ellinogermaniki Agogi, on the completion of the installation of the School Seismograph Network in 100 school units, organize a training workshop focusing on including a broader range of educational activities in the Skills Labs. The workshop will introduce participants to the SEISMO-Lab online platform that functions as a virtual hub of educational seismology for students, and teachers and offers the possibility of using the data collected and stored by the network’s school seismographs, in real-time, by all school and educational communities. Everyone can select seismic events (in time and area) and use their recordings at the different network stations for further analysis. In the project platform, besides the educational material for the teacher (lesson plans, suggested activities, etc.), support material – management of the educational tool is provided, which is addressed to the user (student-teacher). Participants will have the opportunity to follow step-by-step the construction of a school seismograph and to put it into operation to make it part of the Network.

The training workshop will take place on Saturday 20 January 2024, 12:00 – 16:00, at the premises of the Ellinogermaniki Agogi and is targeted at Primary and Secondary Education teachers. Interested teachers are kindly requested to register from Friday 15 December 2023 until Monday 15 January 2024. The number of participants will be 40 and the workshop will be held exclusively with physical presence.
